English ProjectThe Poem below was created as a way to show people that what they say and do to others affects them. Even if you believe you trying to help them. Auxilium which is latin for help, shows three voices.
The voice of a boyfriend watching the guy he loves loose sight of himself and question whether he is worthy of being loved or even loving. As well as the slow proccess of the degrading of him by his parents. Then the voice of all those that tell him those horrible things about himself. How he is a disgrace to god, and he will burn in hell. The final voice that occurs is when you read the bolded and unbolded portions together. You begin to hear the parents realize their errors, but only, as it was too late. Auxilium There was a boy helpless, A boy full of sin, stuck in a spiral of self-hate, For he loved the sight of men. That boy loved everyone and everything, But most of all that boy loved me. Those of us that loved him tried to help,(.) But there was no saving a boy so dark. The guy of his dreams His dream full of immoral acts, I watched him lay down in bed, Sharing his bed with a man he “loved” While his mind filled him with dread, an abomination before god. I watched while he fell apart But if he repents he will be saved. I never saw a boy so brave. Go to god his parents told him,(.) But, His parents did reap what they so How could his parents have known For they showed colors he did not know His parents were not the color of the dark like he had seen Those colors were dark unlike he They only tried to help the poor boy Who had the brightest soul that ever could be He was an amazing young man aside from the “Gay” We all watched in horror as he died I hope God can forgive him for... Taking his own life, for the deeds, he hath done The second poem called Timor meaning fear in latin is about a child and their parents. It gives an insight into how parents are sometimes unable to realize how they hurt their children Timor Parents are perfect and kind They are full of bad bones They could do no wrong Their love is conditional Even if, they cause harm For if they cause something bad, no it wasn’t mom or dad Parents gave life to their children “ I can take you out,” they say Therefore the children must listen Because fear is what many feel towards their parents For if they do not what happens is their fault World history ProjectI wrote a piece on the Rwandan genocide. This piece analyzes the events that occurred causing the genocide.
If history has taught us anything, it is that it is human nature to oppress one another. For example, kidnapped Africans forced into slavery, the murder of Jews during the Holocaust, and the medieval Crusades. At best, these actions leave people or groups feeling betrayed and unwanted. At worst, it leaves them lost to history. When tensions between groups are unaddressed, and systems are created to maintain oppression, conflict builds to violence, and atrocities will happen, as were seen in the Rwandan genocide of 1994.
On April 7th, 1994 The Rwandan Genocide began (Africa today). This genocide where the Hutu were attacking and killing the Tutsi was being fueled by a 141-year rivalry between them. This clash between the two groups started in 1853 when Kigeli Rwabugiri came to power and subdued the small kingdoms around him. It came at a cost for the Hutu. The Hutu had to perform labor in order to get the land that was once theirs, as well as accept cattle in exchange for their personal service. Rwabugiri opened trade with Europeans to obtain weapons for his armies. The Europeans then began building on the already established conflict to gain control of the Hutu and Tutsi. The conflict between Hutu and Tutsi was deepened between 1887 and 1917 when Rwanda came under European control. During this time the colonials thought that the Tutsi were racially superior due to their beliefs that God made the white man and woman perfectly, and the Tutsi reflected more caucasian features. By 1926 Rwanda came under the control of Belgium, and Tutsi supremacy remained intact and thriving. This belief was strongly ingrained in the population leading to the mistreatment of the Hutu. Things began to happen to divide the two factions even further. When Belgium enacted a permanent separation of groups where the Tutsi were favored, the Hutu were enraged. The groups became separated when the Belgian The particular reason for the circumstances that led to the Hutu attacking the Tutsi was many, but mainly the way the Hutu were often treated as less than the Tutsi. The misconduct between the two groups caused by the history that was created through the french Roman catholic, Belgium, and the racist ideology of the colonists led to the Hutu and Tutsi party system (GALE(Africa Today). The Hutu and Tutsi, although not solely responsible for their actions under European influence, were responsible for their actions when they were in control of their government and politics(GALE(Africa Today). There was often interethnic violence due to the politics in Rwanda. Meaning it was often not about someone’s ethnicity but about how politics influenced the way Hutu and Tutsi were treated(GALE(Africa Today). This however rapidly changed due to the ethnic preferences each group had for its own kind. The Hutu had much rage and distaste toward the Tutsi because of the way the Tutsi acted during colonial rule(GALE(Africa Today). The Tutsi in turn also had a distaste for the Hutu, although some Tutsi agreed with how the Hutu felt about their actions during colonial rule, where the Tutsi treated the Hutu unfairly. Over time, the Hutu began to gain control of the political platform and use it to harm the Tutsi. The Rwandan Patriotic Front (or RPF), made of exiled Tutsi, fought for the Rwandan government to become Democratic(GALE(Africa Today). Due to the attacks, many Rwandans believed that the Tutsi were trying to reverse the results of the 1959 revolution in which the ethnic groups were made, as best as possible in the eyes of the Hutu, equal(GALE(Africa Today). In the 1950s there were many battles leading up to the revolution, and similar events happened leading up to the genocide of 1994 (GALE(Africa Today). Many people wanted Rwanda due to the possible trade routes, resources, and slave trade. They were also interested in the chance to convert many Rwandans to the Christian faith. To get these things from Rwandans willingly they needed to take advantage of them first. Using their education and other tools they outnumbered and outsmarted the Rwandans. These actions lead the Hutus down the path to harm the Tutsi. There were many more things that happened though before the Tutsi were attacked. The Tutsi were attacked when others of them attacked Rwanda(GALE). It was this attack that sparked the massacre we know today. The Rwandan government, made of mostly Hutu began to kill innocent Tutsi so that they could use them as a scapegoat. From what I have read it seems as though the conflict in Rwanda follows a seeable pattern. That pattern is that each group closely follows the actions of one another and attempts to blow those actions out of proportion in order to have an excuse to harm or mistreat the other group. When the Hutu took control it was because they were provoked by the Tutsi and vise versa. Each group seems to not want to forgive the other and continue to fight as they have done this for so long. After nearly 141 years of fighting between the two societal parties, they seem to have a cultural distaste toward the other. The groups in and of themselves had to deal with the colonial rule which played a major role as the fire starter which is not their fault. It was due to that negative influence that the genocide happened. When the two groups were each told at one time or another that one was better than the other how could someone not expect conflict. The Hutu and the Tutsi dealt with very opposing arguments about each other and that allowed the conflict to become what it did. The massacre that took place is in no way justified but, it could’ve been prevented if each group would have realized the other groups worth and had colonials never have taken control. |
